Learning Disabled Artists in Leeds

Howard HAIGH at Left Bank Leeds

  • May 4, 2022

From 4th May until 20th May 2022 at Left Bank Leeds.

Howard works in drawings and ceramics which have often focused on the architectural elements of his home city he considers to be most significant.

He has a fast-paced creative imagination and spots the hidden potential in any situation. Howard creates his art at The Bridge in Holbeck, and has exhibited his work in Leeds Central Library.

Howard has been working towards this exhibition since November 2021. He has focused on his love of animals and going big. Howard’s special project has been the design and creation of the large ceramic dragon, made in segments. The small dragon model took 20 minutes to complete (before firing). The scaling up has taken almost 6 months.

Alongside the dragon, Howard has been making portraits of people he knows. These are completed very quickly. A picture is taken capturing specific movements of the body, which Howard works up into clay.

Howard is part of the BEYOND Artist Development Scheme (BADS). He has worked alongside ceramicist Iman Meghraoua to learn the techniques and skills to upscale his work.

This unique film documents Howard’s process and will be screened at the exhibition. https://youtu.be/muHbJDVIeIQ

Please check https://www.leftbankleeds.org.uk/ for opening times.

The exhibition will not be on view during the weekend due to private hire.
