BEYOND celebrates the fantastic work of artists, performers and musicians with learning disabilities in Leeds, and the organisations that support them.

Leeds is a city which cares passionately for arts and creative activity and for many years there has been a wonderful range of organisations that support people in getting involved, trying out, exploring and developing their creativity.  This includes organisations which work exclusively with people with learning disability, as well as major international arts organisations that run projects and activities.  Within the organisations, the arts can be used for education, skills development, health, sociability and fun.

BEYOND 2016 saw these organisations all working together for the first time to celebrate and promote this great work.  It was also an opportunity for people with learning disabilities and their friends and family to find out more about the huge range of arts activity available to them.

In July 2018 we delivered our second city-wide BEYOND Festival, which gathered even greater audiences and was a huge success.

BEYOND is currently delivering the BEYOND Artist Development Scheme (BADS), funded by Arts Council England, which has provided four artists with a learning disability with a 12-month programme of bespoke support and mentoring to develop their practice and create new work.

We will continue to promote the work of artists with a learning disability through a biennial BEYOND Festival in Leeds and, as partner organisations, work collaboratively to ensure that Leeds is the best city for people with a learning disability to access the arts.
