Andrew Towse is an artist who has produced a number of commissions, exhibitions, publications, and conference talks. Supported by artist Anne-Marie Atkinson and Pyramid of Arts, Andrew has developed strong technical skills and a distinctive way of documenting his life through photography and photomontage.
Continually throughout his practice, Andrew has documented his favourite food: a sausage sandwich on brown bread with brown sauce. Amassing over 200 images, he was awarded a £15,000 grant from Leeds2023 to present this archive during the BEYOND festival.
A one-metre cube frame at Leeds Market marks the starting point for a trail that takes the viewer on a trip to over 20 cafes in Leeds and Morley, locations where Andrew has consumed and immortalised sausage sandwiches. The project oscillates between banal and absurd, serious and humorous; gross and delicious.
Visit the market or any BEYOND venue to pick up a map to all of the cafes where smaller cubes are displayed. Every cube has different images. You are invited to try and visit as many as possible over the festival, and perhaps sample a few sausage sandwiches yourself!
